Shenmue III is the long awaited third installment in the popular Shenmue series and fans have been waiting for it since the second game launched way back in 2001. At Sony’s E3 2015 conference, it was announced that a Kickstarter for Shenmue III would be launched with a goal of raising at least $2 million. Fans were overcome with excitement and the fundraiser finally ended with $6.3 million in donations.
Shenmue III has been in development since then and is set to be released in late 2018. Things seem to be coming together nicely and now it has been announced that Deep Silver will be publishing the highly anticipated title. Deep Silver is best known for publishing the popular Saints Row games as well as the somewhat less popular Homefront titles.
Shenmue III’s developer Ys Net stated: “I am very pleased to secure this global partnership with Deep Silver, which is comprised of incredible men and women who have a deep passion for bringing Japanese titles to the rest of the world,” said Shenmue III director Yu Suzuki. “Throughout this process, Deep Silver has expressed a deep passion for Japanese games, the Shenmue franchise, and its fans–this gives me further confidence in Shenmue III and that we have found the best partner possible.”
No doubt Shenmue fans will be pleased to hear the game has secured a publisher and can’t wait for the game to finally be released. It is set to be available on the PlayStation 4 and PC.
