Recommended Videos

(Weeks One and Two)

August seems to mark the definitive end to 2017’s summer drought with a long list of games releasing across all platforms, especially the PS4. There are over 25 games waiting for owners of Sony’s most recent console and they cover a wide range of genres from puzzle, to racing, to beautiful action-adventure experiences. The first two weeks are a bit lighter than the rest of the month when it comes to offerings, so we’ve combined them, but there are still some games to check out here.

One standout is the console exclusive Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice from Ninja Theory (Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, DmC: Devil May Cry). It will dive deep into the psychosis of Senua as she fights against mythological monstrosities that live in her nightmares. Mega Man jumps over to PS4 once again with the second Legacy Collection which is sure to please fans of the classic games. There are more titles (including some VR games) to sink your teeth in. Check out the offerings for the first two weeks below:

  • Aug. 1 – CastleStorm VR
  • Aug. 1 – Demetrios
  • Aug. 1 – Dino Frontier (PSVR)
  • Aug. 1 – Patapon Remastered
  • Aug. 1 – Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun
  • Aug. 1 – The Long Dark Episode One: Do Not Go Gentle
  • Aug. 1 – The Long Dark Episode Two: Luminance Fugue

  • Aug. 8 – Mega Man Legacy Collection 2

August 2017 PS4 Video Game Releases

(Weeks Three: Aug. 13-19)

Housemarque has already released an amazing game for the PS4 this year called Nex Machina, but the company has something in store for players in August 2017 as well. Matterfall takes the frenetic, side-scrolling action of Resogun, but mixes flight with boots to ground action as well as a dangerous combo system to keep you locked in. Agents of Mayhem takes an alternate look at the Saints Row universe while also changing things up to a team-centric experience.

One classic mascot is looking to make everyone fall in love with him again after a vicious cycle of less than stellar games. Sonic Mania looks like it will finally be the experience fans of the blue blur have been waiting on for. There’re some more games to play on your PS4 as well during this week, check out the schedule.

  • Aug. 15 – Agents of Mayhem
  • Aug. 15 – Cities Skylines
  • Aug. 15 – Matterfal
  • Aug. 15 – Nidhogg 2
  • Aug. 15 – Sonic Mania
  • Aug. 15 – Undertale

August 2017 PS4 Video Game Releases

(Weeks Four – Aug. 20-26)

uncharted, lost legacy

Week four of August 2017 keeps things going strong with some big games from both AAA developers as well as the indie side of things. If you’d like to try your hand at escaping prison, then The Escapists 2 is right up your alley. Thimbleweed Park offers up a deep and engaging story for those who want their indie games a bit more deep.

Many PS4 owners’ eyes will be locked onto Naughty Dog’s latest project, though. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is a standalone expansion to the critically acclaimed Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. You won’t be playing as Nathan Drake, though. This time around we’ll be diving into the story of Chloe and Nadine as we seek out an entirely new treasure.

There are other titles to look out for this week as well, check them out:

  • Aug. 22 – Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Episode 3: More Than a Feeling
  • Aug. 22 – The Escapists 2
  • Aug. 22 – Thimbleweed Park
  • Aug. 22 – Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
  • Aug. 25 – F1 2017
  • Aug. 25 – Madden NFL 18
  • Aug. 25 – Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Legacy

Absolver

August 2017 isn’t over just yet for the PS4. There are plenty of titles squeezed into the last few days of the month, and they offer racing, episodic, action, and even some RPG experiences for those looking for them.

Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of the very first game in the series that adds beautiful visuals, new features, and an expanded story to bring the classic to the current generation of consoles. Absolver takes hand-to-hand combat to a new level with its open world and fully customizable fight system. And if you couldn’t get enough of Life Is Strange, there’s a prequel waiting for you at the end of the month.

  • Aug. 29 – Absolver
  • Aug. 29 – Warriors All-Stars
  • Aug. 29 – Everybody’s Golf
  • Aug. 29 – Redout: Lightspeed Edition

There’s a lot to play on PS4 in August, what will you be picking up?
