The Kingdom Hearts 3 hype is in full swing following the latest trailer that revealed the game’s release window of 2018. Since then, Square Enix has been trickling news about what they plan to include in the third installment. In a recent interview with IGN, game director Tetsuya Nomura has teased that the upcoming title will have another playable character.
He stated that it “would be tough” to include multiple playable characters in Kingdom Hearts 3, however, they are already planning on including a second playable character aside from the series protagonist, Sora. As for who this will be, Square Enix is still keeping a tight lip on this particular subject.
It’s worth pointing out that this wouldn’t be the first time the series allowed for multiple playable characters as the second game started off with the player controlling Roxas. Similarly, Birth by Sleep included three controllable Keyblade wielders – Terra, Aqua, and Ventus – each with their own story. Even the Game Boy Advance game, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, allowed fans to control Riku in a second campaign.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is set to release sometime next year on the PS4 and Xbox One. We’ll keep you updated with more information along the way.
