The Destiny 2 Beta kicks off in less than one week with closed betas opening up on PS4 and Xbox One on July 18 and 19 respectively, and the open beta going live next Friday. In order to get ahead of the rush, Bungie has decided to let fans preload the beta starting… well, now. If you go onto the PlayStation Store or the Xbox Marketplace, search Destiny 2 – Beta and you’ll be able to download the app which comes in at 15.06 GB. There’s one catch, though. In order to start preloading you must have a Destiny 2 closed beta code, which requires pre-ordering the game.
This may come as a shock to some, as the beta will eventually be open to those who haven’t pre-ordered as well. Right now there is no way for them to download the app, so we wonder when, and even if, Bungie will allow everyone else to preload Destiny 2’s upcoming beta in order to avoid major server traffic late next week. With the first game attracting millions of players, there’s no doubt that there will be a huge crowd next week as well, so it will be interesting to see what kind of strain the servers can handle, and how Bungie plans on getting everyone on in an orderly fashion.
For now, those who have pre-ordered can use their nine-digit promotion code at this link which will allow them to choose their console of choice by signing into their Bungie profile here. Do note that if you pre-ordered a Digital copy of Destiny 2 directly on your platform of choice, you won’t need any codes and will instantly be able to download the beta.
