Fans around the world were pretty upset when Nintendo held one of their Direct presentations not too long ago that was solely focused on the Pokemon franchise. During the presentation, The Pokemon Company announced a new mainline game, but not for the Switch – which people were expecting. They announced Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for the 3DS and Pokken Tournament DX for the Switch.

Fast forward to Nintendo’s Spotlight Event during E3 and lo and behold, Nintendo officially confirmed that a mainline Pokemon game is in development for the Switch and is more than a year away from coming out.  The untitled Pokemon game will feature the core aspects of the Pokemon series. According to Reggie Fils-Aime, the president of Nintendo of America, Pokemon Switch will be a “traditional find, battle, train type experience”. A Bloomberg tech reporter asked him about the upcoming game and that was all of the new information that was given.

You can expect to catch, battle, and train some cute critters on the Switch sometime in 2018 or beyond. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon launch for the Nintendo 3DS on November 17 while Pokken Tournament DX drops on Sep. 22 for the Switch.
