The anime originally ran in 1998 and followed protagonist Spike Spiegel in 2071 while him and his gang of bounty hunters chased criminals across the Solar System. The show featured 26 episodes, and was adapted into two manga series as well as a feature film entitled Cowboy Bebop: The Movie in 2001.

Also according to Variety, the show will be executively produced by Sunset Inc., which was the studio that produced the original animated series back in the 90s. Film and comic book writer Chris Yost, best known for his role as head writer for The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes animated series, will write the adaptation.
