Call of Duty: WWII

Call of Duty is going back to its series roots by taking players back to World War II. This time around, the single-player campaign will put players in the shoes of recruit Ronald ‘Red’ Daniels, a soldier who’s been sent to the front lines. WWII will take place entirely in Europe, and players will get to experience the historical event from Ronald’s point of view. Major events in the game include the storming of Normandy beach, marching through Luxembourg, and taking back Paris from the Axis Powers.

Sledgehammer also mentioned that there will be no regenerating health mechanic in Call of Duty: WWII. If you’re injured, you’ll have to rely on your medic to nurse you back to health. Similarly, if you happen to run out of ammo, you’ll have to rely on your fellow comrades to give you more. You can’t simply find ammo pickups just lying on the ground, like we see in most shooter games these days.

In addition to that, Sledgehammer mentioned that they wanted the game to really showcase the horror and brutality of war. World War II affected millions of lives, and their goal is to create a game that touches on the personal connections and relationships that were marred by the event. They also got a historian to work with them during the development process to capture the authenticity of the event. Historian Marty Morgan worked on the game for two years, and his goal was to present the core and essence of war to players.

The Multiplayer

Every Call of Duty game needs a multiplayer segment, and WWII is no different. While Sledgehammer didn’t show off or really go into much detail about the multiplayer modes, they gave us just enough info to chew on for the moment. First off, zombies will be back. The multiplayer co-op mode will task players with teaming up together to shoot and kill Nazi zombies. The zombies co-op mode will also come with its own standalone story. It’s a bit of a tired formula at this point, but hey, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it, right?

There will be a Headquarters, which serves as sort of a hub for players to interact together when they’re not in any of the multiplayer gameplay modes. We don’t have much info on this just yet, but supposedly it’s an area where you can receive awards for your in-game performance.

There are two other modes called Divisions and War. Divisions will allow players to enlist in different army divisions, and progress through the ranks of their respective groups. War mode sounds a lot more interesting, as it places players in recreations of major battles from the war itself. Players will have to work together to complete objectives and win the battle.

When Is It Out?

Activision has announced that Call of Duty: WWII will be releasing for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 3. Unfortunately, there was no news on whether the game would be coming to the Nintendo Switch. Playing the zombies mode on the go would certainly be very fun.

WWII will also be getting a multiplayer beta ahead of the game’s official release. Though we don’t have any release dates or windows just yet, it will be coming to PS4 first. Those who pre-order the game will have access to the closed beta. Activision didn’t mention if there would be an open beta after that, but the chances of that happening are pretty high either way.

Lastly, you can check out the game’s official reveal trailer right here, if you haven’t already.
