Almost one year after the release of Pokemon GO, the developers of the game have finally added the 2nd generation of Pokemon. The beloved Pokemon of the Johto region are now able to be caught in the real world, with the exceptions of the legendary Pokemon like Suicune. Lugia, and Entei.
We’ve thought of coming up with a list of the best 20 pokemon from Gen 2 that you should be catching in Pokemon GO. If Pokemon GO is your first venture into the world of Pokemon, you can use this list to seek out the cutest, strongest monsters to beat all of those gyms with.
Pokemon GO is a GPS-based game that lets you find Pokemon in the real world via your smart phone. You can find water Pokemon around lakes and oceans and you can bet your butt that you’ll find grass types in wooded areas.
It’s all based on your real world location which works really well and is quite amazing. Niantic plans to add player battles and trading into the game to up the experience as much as they can.
This new update not came with new Pokemon but with more customization options, new types of berries, and an upgraded user experience overall with the app.
Here’s a list of all of the new Pokemon available. these are the best gen 2 pokemon to catch in pokemon go, but there are sure to be more you want.

CHIKORITA
The grass type starter in the Johto region will definitely be a cute addition to your team if you can manage to nab one. Chikorita's grass moves will take down any rock Pokemon in your way.
TOTODILE
This blue little guy goes by the name of Totodile. It's basically a Crocodile that can shoot water from its mouth and chomp down on foes; what's not to love?
CYNDAQUIL
Cyndaquil, being the fire type that it is, pops flames out of its back whenever it sneeze, burning whatever is around. If this fiery mouse gets angry, its flames get even bigger. This is an adorable pick that can pack quite the flaming punch.
TEDDIURSA
Teddiursa is a curious little bear who has round and puffy tail. It can absorb honey into its paws so that it always has a nice treat to snack on. If you get one on your team, maybe it'll be nice enough to share.
SMEARGLE
The artistic Pokemon, Smeargle, can copy other Pokemon's abilities using the move 'sketch'. It can fight with its tail, which is also used to paint. Smeargle does all of this stuff while also wearing a beret.
HOUNDOUR
People loved Growlithe from the first generation of Pokemon; Houndour is essentially the Johto iteration of the fire-type dog, except that Houndour is also a dark-type Pokemon.
AMPHAROS
Ampharos can shine so bright that you can see it from space! This electric-type can learn some pretty sweet moves like Thunder Punch and Zap Cannon.
CORSOLA
Need to beat a tough Gym battle that has a super strong Flying or Fire-type? Take this cute coral Pokemon and you'll surely do some damage; Corsola will bash your opponents with its sharp branches.
DONPHAN
The elephant Pokemon, Donphan is an essential monster to keep in your batle party. It has the ability to curl up into a ball and violently roll around like a wheel, smashing into other Pokemon face-first. Donphan is also just really cool looking, and will scare the jiggly puffs off of any opponent.
SCIZOR
Scyther evolves into the Steel and Bug-type Pokemon, Scizor. It's known as the 'Pincer Pokemon' thanks to two sharp arms that can lock enemies down. These pincers even have circles on them that resemble eye-balls; you can never run away from their wrath.
SLOWKING
The King of all of the Slowpokes, Slowking. Rumor has it that the crown on its head is actually a Shellder that's latched onto its person. Slowking is known as the royal Pokemon, and will help you uncover the secrets of the Pokemon universe, but this Pokemon does tend to forget things often, so good luck.
TYRANITAR
You won't want to cuddle with this beast of a Pokemon, but Tyranitar makes up for that with its superior strength. It's so tough, in fact, that it apparently spends its time walking around mountains just looking for a fight.
WOBBUFFET
Wobbuffet is known for being able to take any attack from an opponent and throw it back two-fold with its counter and mirror coat moves. This blue blob may not look strong, but trust me, the only bad thing about it is its attitude; just look at that scraggly mouth.
UMBREON
The dark-type of the eeveelutions, Umbreon represents the night in every way. You have to train an Eevee with love during the night to get Umbreon in the main games. It hides in the darkness waiting for its foes to make a move.
ESPEON
Espeon is the counterpart of Umbreon, being raised in the daylight instead of nighttime. It's a psychic-type that is said to be extremely loyal to its trainer, you can expect Espeon to protect you from all kinds of trouble.
AIPOM
There are a few different kinds of monkey Pokemon, but Aipom takes the cake when it comes to the Johto region. It's purple and can grab things with its third hand, which just happens to be a tail. Be careful though, Aipom can be quite mischievous and might just take things from you without asking. He's adorable though, so just forgive him.
XATU
Xatu is a very mysterious Pokemon, I mean just look at it. Standing in one spot all day thinking about the terrible things that happen in the future. This Pokemon can predict the moves of its opponents, which makes it a top contender for Psychic-types.
KINGDRA
Kingdra is water and dragon-type Pokemon that owns the sea. Its yawns are so powerful that they have the ability to cause spiraling ocean currents. Its high speed and attack lets Kingdra race through the waters whilst being an all-powerful Dragon and stuff.
SUDOWOODO
Sudowoodo hides itself as a tree to avoid being attacked by predators, but is easily spotted by its green hands once Fall and Winter start; at least Sudowoodo succeeds for most of the year. This Pokemon's defense stats are kicking and it'll take a pretty effective move to get this tree falling down.
STEELIX
Steelix is what happens when you take a giant snake made of rocks and then turn it all to metal. Yea, it's rad. Steelix can literally just crush people with its own body without even putting in the effort. It's quite a.... steal.
