Update: Responding to Twinfinite’s inquiry, Target has also denied that it is cancelling any customers’ Nintendo Switch pre-orders. “Target has not cancelled any pre-orders for Nintendo Switch due to inventory allocations. Customers who have questions about their Nintendo Switch pre-order should contact Target Guest Relations at 1-800-440-0680,” a Target representative stated.

Earlier this week, reports emerged on Nintendo Today and My Nintendo News claiming that retailers Target and GameStop were cancelling some Nintendo Switch pre-orders due to supply being lower than demand. Though Target has yet to respond to the reports, GameStop has now released a statement denying that it is cancelling pre-orders.

“GameStop has not, and is not, cancelling any Nintendo Switch pre-orders due to allocation issues,” a GameStop representative informed GI.biz. “We are working very closely to confirm and validate any and all pre-orders of this innovative gaming system. Should any customer who pre-ordered a Nintendo Switch console from GameStop experience any issue with their order, we encourage them to contact our Guest Care team so we can help resolve the issue.”

The reports of cancelled pre-orders seem to have originated from reader tips and ambiguous “reports,” with Nintendo Today not mentioning who was reporting as much. Both sites’ reports were nevertheless widely circulated by the games media this week.

Twinfinite has reached out to Target to get their side of the story, but the retailer has not responded as of press time.

For Nintendo’s part, the console holder recently stated that it planned to increase Nintendo Switch production, but did not say by how much. “We want to increase production as much as we can,” Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima said during an investor meeting last month. Originally, the company revealed plans to ship two million Switch units by the end of March.
