Healers get the short end of the stick, as they’re often looked over for characters who can deal out serious damage or raise defense. While both of those are important in Fire Emblem Heroes, you will take damage, and it’s a good idea to keep someone around who’s able to take care of that.

Elise from Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest is a remarkable healer who can heal 25 points of health with her ability. Even better, if you have her covering a Mage or anyone else using a staff, the amount she heals goes up, making her a perfect support hero for those squishy mages. On top of all that, she has a Gray Stone, so she doesn’t take any extra damage from any other unit, though you still need to protect her if you want to keep her alive. Like healers in most video games, Elise has low defense making her an easy target.

Takumi, the Wild Card (Gray)

The Best Fire Emblem Heroes Characters

takumi

Takumi comes to Fire Emblem Heroes from Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright, and is an archer. Normally that isn’t something to write home about, however this archer has a very unique skill.

It’s no secret that archers can attack from range, that’s their bread and butter. However, depending on their distance they can still be counterattacked and killed. Takumi, on the other hand, can attack indirectly, meaning he can fire an arrow but the enemy can’t retaliate. It’s a free attack basically.

Making him even better is that while Takumi can’t be counterattacked, he himself can counterattack from a distance (two squares max), allowing him to be an offensive force on the battlefield while still being safe from most danger. Enemies will have trouble dealing with this 5 Star warrior, so put him in and watch as your victories pile up.

Leo, the Sorcerer Prince (Red)

The Best Fire Emblem Heroes Characters

leo

Prince Leo is one of the main protagonists of Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest and one of the absolute best units available in Fire Emblem Heroes. This is due to his ability to control the battlefield in order to position enemies where he can both destroy them and negate their attacks.

If you have a Leo with Brynhildr, he will force opponents to move to a square adjacent to his position in order to attack him. If they are unable to do so, then they can’t harm him. This negates Archers since they can only attack distant squares, leaving them completely open to his onslaught, and brings those low-defense mages right up to his reach. As if that weren’t enough, Leo can also use an area of effect attack to damage all nearby enemies. So after forcing a few to stand close, you can clear them all out.

When paired with a solid healer such as Elise, this character is absolutely unstoppable.

Ryoma, the Peerless Samurai (Red)

The Best Fire Emblem Heroes Characters

ryoma

Counterattacks are very useful in Fire Emblem Heroes, as they allow you to capitalize on an otherwise bad situation. Being able to deal damage to someone who just attacked you and possibly even kill them is not to bad of a deal, but it does have its limits. At least it does for those other than this Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright protagonist.

Ryoma has a unique ability to counterattack enemies from any distance. He can retaliate and kill mages and archers without ever leaving his square. Of course, he’s not invincible, so he should be paired with someone who can bolster his defense (like Fae), or a really good healer (like Elise). Even so, that is one powerful ability to have up your sleeve and will make missions against ranged units a bit easier to swallow.

Camilla, the Bewitching Beauty (Green)

The Best Fire Emblem Heroes Characters

camilla

Camilla is actually Leo’s elder sister, and is not to be trifled with. This warrior princess does extraordinary magical damage. That alone isn’t really much to brag about, but if you have the right equipment, she can attack twice in one go, allowing her to clear out enemies before they can get an attack off.  She can also boost her own attack and has a perk that allows her to deal three points of damage to nearby enemies (within 2 spaces) after she attacks.

However, it must be noted that without her double attack ability she places herself at great risk. Once she attacks she loses her speed, so she can’t flee. When paired with defensive units or solid healers, she’s golden. But even they may have trouble defending her from archers which can do bonus damage to Camilla. Still, her power output is not to be underestimated, and in the right setup she can annihilate entire enemy forces.

Fae, the Divine Dragon (Green)

The Best Fire Emblem Heroes Characters

fae

Yes, there are amazing characters in Fire Emblem Heroes who aren’t from Fates. Fae comes to us from Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade and brings some amazing defensive abilities to the party.

If you happen to have the Light Bracelet unlocked, Fae will raise the defense (both physical and magical) of all nearby allies. So all those glass cannons you have like Camilla become able to survive tough battles. On top of that, she can lower the attack of enemies within a two square radius. Add to that her ability to heal up to 10HP and you have a solid support unit that you can keep behind your strong warriors.

It’s true that she doesn’t have much when it comes to putting out damage, but like Elise, she’s valuable where it counts.
