PS4 January 2017 Video Game Releases (8 – 14)
The first week of video game releases in 2017 is actually the second week of January. The very first game of the year? A PS4 exclusive, Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Future Tone. If you’ve ever played a Hatsune Miku game, then you already know what to expect. If you haven’t, you’ll join the eponymous star and her friends as she tours the world singing songs. Mainly, it’s a rhythm game that will test your reflexes.
It’s the only PS4 game of the week, though, so if it’s not your cup of tea, you’re going to have to wait a few days before you dive into 2017 gaming.
Week one’s schedule:
- January 10 Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Future Tone
PS4 January 2017 Video Game Releases (15 – 21)
The second week has a bit more to offer to PS4 owners, but it’s still relatively light. There are two standout titles in the bunch; the first is Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star, which plays a lot like the Dynasty Warrior series of games. Then there’s Gravity Rush 2, the second PS4 exclusive of 2017 (they’re starting early). Fans of the first game will find themselves right where the story left off, and soon transported to a new world and a whole new mystery to solve.
Check out week two’s lineup:
- January 15 Road Redemption
- January 17 2046: Read Only Memories
- January 17 Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star (also on Vita)
- January 20 Gravity Rush 2
PS4 January 2017 Video Game Releases (22 – 28)
Week three is the heaviest hitter, bringing four highly anticipated games to the PS4, three of them being exclusive. First you have Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8, which brings a playable HD re-release of Dream Drop Distance (previously only available on the 3DS), a new game called Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage, and a CG film titled Kingdom Hearts x Back Cover.
Then there’s Yakuza 0, a prequel to the popular Yakuza series filled with all the same intense action and sometimes wacky humor that fans have come to expect. Following that is the final exclusive of the week, Tales of Berseria, the latest entry in the long-running Tales series. Just when you thought there couldn’t be anything else worth playing, Resident Evil VII: Biohazard brings the series back to its survival horror roots, complete with terrifying PSVR Support.
Week three’s schedule:
- Jan. 24 Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
- Jan. 24 Yakuza 0
- Jan. 24 Tales of Berseria
- Jan. 24 Resident Evil VII: Biohazard (has PSVR support)
PS4 January 2017 Video Game Releases (29 – 31)
The PS4’s first month in 2017 closes off strong. Double Dragon IV kicks things off, bringing a brand new game to the franchise with the graphics you’d expect from the original releases all those years ago (let the nostalgia wash over you). It’s odd that it’s called Double Dragon IV, though, since we got a Double Dragon V a long, long time ago.
Following that up is Digimon World: Next Order. Players will be able to travel with two Digimon at their sides as they take on battles and explore the world. There’s also a new Dynasty Warriors that does away with the typical insane combat and goes for more of a strategy RPG approach. Closing off the month is Hitman: The Complete First Season, for those who wanted all episodes together.
January’s closing schedule:
- Jan. 30 Double Dragon IV
- Jan. 31 Digimon World: Next Order
- Jan. 31 Divide
- Jan. 31 Dynasty Warriors: Godseekers (also on Vita)
- Jan. 31 Constructor HD
- Jan. 31 Hitman: The Complete First Season
