How to Transfer Pokemon to Sun and Moon

Pokemon Transfer – Sun and Moon

Recommended Videos

As Sun and Moon hits shelves, you may be wondering if and how you can transfer Pokemon from your other games to these new titles. Luckily, the Pokemon Bank will allow you to do just that. Unluckily, Sun and Moon won’t be compatible with the Bank until January 2017, when a compatibility update rolls around.

Pokemon Bank

The Pokemon Bank is an application on the 3DS that allows you to store up to 3,000 Pokemon from across your games, and transfer them into other games. Keep in mind the service costs $4.99 per year.

One the bank update arrives, you’ll be able to transfer from X, Y, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire to Sun and Moon. Once a Pokemon is transferred from any of these games to Sun and Moon, they cannot be transferred back into their original games. You’re also not allowed to transfer held items; those will be booted back into their original game if you try.

How to Transfer From Red, Blue, and Yellow

The Pokemon Transporter will also receive a Sun and Moon compatibility update, which means you’ll eventually be able to transfer from the Virtual Console versions of Red, Blue, and Yellow. Again, you won’t be able to return transferred monsters or move them around with held items.
