Rockstar Games is getting tougher on hackers who have added funds to their virtual wallet through mods and hacks in Grand Theft Auto Online. The publisher updated its support page today to explain how it will combat dirty money in GTA Online:
“To keep the gameplay environment fair we have removed illegitimately gained in-game money from player accounts. If you received an alert saying that your shared bank balance was adjusted, that is because you had illegitimate funds in your account.”
Rockstar assures any money bought through GTA Shark Cards will remain on the account. Simply receiving illegitimate money from another player does not cause a suspension, but hacking and modding will. The company also updated its suspension and ban policy:
“If you are temporarily suspended from GTA Online, you will not be able to access GTA Online from the moment you are suspended. Your suspension expiration date is shown on the splash screen after being returned to Story Mode following an attempt to play GTA Online.”
A temporary suspension also resets a player’s GTA Online character, progress, property, and inventory. Receiving another violation results in a permanent ban that cannot be repealed.
Players who have lost any money could make up the difference quickly, because Rockstar is celebrating the third anniversary of GTA Online today. Players who log in today through October 31 can get a free gift of $250,000 in-game currency.
