According to data from MCV, Microsoft’s new Xbox One S has helped it to conquer the console market since its release.
The 500GB and 1TB SKUs have seen the Xbox One take 71% of the hardware market last week (week ending September 24). That equates to a 76% increase year-on-year, and a staggering 989% increase week-on-week.
These figures may have been helped thanks to the deal that was struck with EA regarding FIFA 17 bundles for the 500GB and 1TB Slim models. Despite the game only releasing today in the UK, both of the new SKUs received bundles when they released early last week allowing players to get their hands on a fresh new console, a copy of the game, and a month of EA Access.
As a result, new adopters of Microsoft’s console were able to play the game a week early with the trial on EA Access, before jumping right into the action with the bundled copy.
Sony’s newly released PS4 Slim didn’t have a similar effect on the console market upon its release a couple of weeks ago in the UK. The PS4 had only a 19% share in the market last week, equating to a 66% drop year-on-year, but a 22% rise week-on-week.
Speaking with MCV, Xbox UK Marketing Director Harvey Eagle commented on the sales figures, “It’s great to see how popular both the Xbox One S and the FIFA 17 Xbox One S consoles are with fans, not just over the last week but since the Xbox One S was released in August,” Eagle said. “… we believe there is no better value right now for those looking to upgrade their console,” he added.
Thanks MCV for the figures.
