World of Warcraft Legion Pushes Launch Week Player Concurrency to its Highest Point Since 2010

Legion is bringing in the big bucks for Blizzard.

World of Warcraft Legion, Demon Hunter

It’s a well-known fact that every new World of Warcraft expansion attracts a plethora of new players to the game, but it sounds like Legion’s recent numbers may just be the best Blizzard has seen in quite a while. According to the Irvine-based developer, the launch-week numbers are in and they are very impressive indeed. In fact, Legion seems to be the fastest selling new expansion since the release of Cataclysm, which pulled in record figures back in 2010.

Blizzard recently announced that World of Warcraft’s newest expansion pack managed to sell no less than 3.3 million copies in its first day alone. While the company didn’t mention any specific figures, Blizzard also stated that Legion reached another important milestone by pushing World of Warcraft’s launch week player concurrency numbers to their highest point since Cataclysm.

Needless to say, the expansion is doing very well so far, however, the developers are not ready to sit on their laurels just yet and are committed to pushing forward even more quality content for the community in future updates, starting with the upcoming first major update dubbed Patch 7.1: Return to Karazhan.

“It’s been a thrill to see players hunting demons, powering up Artifacts, and freely exploring all the new zones in Legion,” says Blizzard CEO and cofounder Mike Morhaime, “We worked hard to make this the bestWorld of Warcraft expansion yet, and we look forward to providing players with even more content as Legion’s epic story unfolds in the months ahead.”
