Keiji Inafune’s ReCore Getting PC Release, Being Penned By Halo Writer

The Mega Man creator's mysterious new game is coming sometime in 2016.

Microsoft, e3 2016, ReCore, xbox one, games, 2016, confirmed

One of Microsoft’s big announcements at last year’s E3 was the new game from Keiji Inafune, ReCore. Since then the only thing we’ve seen or heard on the game was the trailer that was shown at E3, where we see a lone woman wandering a desert planet and using a “core” to bring different robotic torsos to life.

The project is being helmed by famed Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune and was thought to be an Xbox One exclusive releasing sometime in early 2016. Today however, Microsoft announced that the game has been pushed back to a new release window of “2016” and will also be releasing on Windows 10 PC. The announcement was made in the middle of a quick rundown piece on Xbox’s plans for the year.

We also found out today in an interview with The New York Times that Joseph Staten, longtime writer at Bungie would be writing the game. Staten worked at Bungie for over 15 years as the studio’s director of cinematics in addition to managing the expanded universe of Halo, and writing Halo 3: ODST.

Staten was also the lead writer and design director on Destiny before leaving the company in 2013 to work on an unknown project. Staten talked to the Times about ReCores heroine and female leads in video games,

“The male gender does not have the monopoly on heroism. Joule is emblematic of this conviction, and we hope she’s a character who stands strong and stands out in a market filled with male heroes.”

Very little is known about ReCore’s story or gameplay at this point, but with a 2016 release date still set we’re bound to find out more soon. The game is currently in development at Comcept and Armature Studios. Comcept’s spiritual successor to Mega Man called Mighty No. 9 is due out this February.

What do you think about the ODST writer lending his talents to ReCore? Is the game on your radar, or are you still waiting to see more from it first? Let us know down in the comments.
