The financial results of EA’s FY16 Quarter 2 digital sales results show how downloadable content (extra content) net revenue continues to grow for EA. In a 12-month period, DLC for EA grew over 23% from last year’s figures. From a quarter-to-quarter comparison, Quarter two of the 2016 financial year (Summer 2015) shows a 27% increase compared to last year’s quarter two (Summer 2014).
Full Game Downloads, while not as impressive, displays growth as well at 8% in the past 12 months compared to last year’s span. That growth didn’t stop DLC (extra content) from surpassing Full Game Downloads twice by doubling its net revenue. Over a billion dollars in net revenue for DLC has been accumulated in the past 12 months for EA. Quarterly net revenue between Quarter Two of 2014 & 2015 also show DLC as the only category showing positive growth.
It’s important to note physical, retail releases of EA games don’t factor in the sales. Of course, these figures exclude revenue from mobile sales as free-to-play apps stand as its own category.
Which game’s DLC do you think contributed the most to the growth? Madden 16? Battlefield Hardline? NHL 16? Tige-Rory Mcilroy PGA Tour?
