Disney Infinity’s “Squid Wars” Is Splatoon with Disney Characters

In case you always wanted to see Star Wars characters shooting ink guns.

Splatoon has been a huge success for Nintendo this year, selling nearly 150,000 copies in its first week and producing an art book and soundtrack for fans to buy. Now the game has gotten so popular that other companies are trying to make their own Splatoon. Take a look at “Squid Wars” for Disney Infinity 3.0.

Disney Infinity 3.0 allows players to create many different things in its expansive Toy Box mode, including new game types with their own unique rules. So the Disney Infinity Team decided to create this mode where two opposing teams use ink guns to paint the map.

If this sounds familiar, it’s because this is basically the same objective of Splatoon. The download page for the mode even seems to refer to Splatoon’s annoyingly catchy commercial.

Grab your ink gun and paint your turf as quickly as you can! Ambush the competition’s turf with your color ink to call yourself the squidiest kid on the block!

Since this is technically a user-created mode that no one can make money from, Nintendo probably won’t seek legal action against Disney. And the gameplay is much more simplistic than Splatoon as there aren’t multiple weapons, and one shot from the paint gun paints a huge area.

Still, if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery Nintendo must be extremely flattered.
