Warner Bros Cancels Last Gen Versions of Mortal Kombat X

There wasn't enough computing power for all the blood.

Before Mortal Kombat X launched in April, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment delayed the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions. After a few months of delays, the publisher has officially announced that the last gen versions of Mortal Kombat X have been canceled.

This announcement comes from an administrator’s post on the Warner Bros. community forums.

After months of development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has come to the regrettable conclusion that we cannot release Mortal Kombat X for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.  Please know our teams worked diligently to meet the quality standards set by the current-gen versions of the game.  We were not able to get the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions to the quality expected of a Mortal Kombat game and are very sorry for not being able to deliver the products as originally planned.

The port of Mortal Kombat X was outsourced to High Voltage Software who handled the PC port. Many users experienced issues with this port including lost save data and poor connections in online matches.

Anyone who pre-ordered Mortal Kombat X on PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 is eligible for a free refund.

Canceling a high-profile game that was months into development usually doesn’t happen this publicly, but Warner Bros. have published a handful of games with major technical issues recently. This could have been a preferable option to disappointing customers with a underwhelming port.
