Hideo Kojima, Del Toro and Konami had a little arguement that eventually led to the cancellation of Silent Hills. When Konami decides to cancel something, they even remove the playable teaser demo that was on the PlayStation Store called P.T.
Silent Hills saw collaboration between Hideo Kojima and film director Guillermo del Toro and now that it’s cancelled, Del Toro decided to reveal some of the game’s development directions and inspirations as he said to IGN.
Del Toro also commented on how Metal Gear Solid was their inspiration in terms of its psychotic moments like the “Psycho Mantis”.
“I love working with Kojima-san. We are still in touch. We are still friends and working into doing something together, but that’s not going to be [Silent Hills],” Del Toro said “We were in the planning stages, and it’s a shame it’s not going to happen,”
“We were talking about really pushing the boundaries of the new consoles, and making the game really mess with your head. One of the great moments in Metal Gear [Solid] was Psycho Mantis. The idea that a game can actually interact with you, and stuff like that.”
I hope we see Del Toro and Hideo Kojima working together again in the future and actually completing the project.
