Cheap on PC
Now this is most valid reason to replay Skyrim if you are a console gamer. With very modest minimum requirements, you can pick up a computer to run Skyrim, and most modern games, for $600-$700. That is pre-built and delivered to your door.
With Steam sales and other online retailers, you can look to pick Skyrim up for around $10-$20 depending on whether you get the normal or legendary edition.
Moving on to the number one thing that Skyrim on the PC offers above all else is…
Mods
It is highly likely that you will never play Skyrim in a vanilla state again after playing with mods. The reason being that Skyrim had problems, and everyone had different opinions to what those problems were. Say, for arguments sake, you think the swords are too short and wide. There’s a mod for that.
Skyrim has been given an immeasurable amount of content through mods and the modding community. Yes, some of that content is of questionable quality and a lot of it just turns Skyrim into interactive pornography, which is no where near as fun as it sounds. The silver lining is that there are some absolutely amazing mods out there and they have all been time tested by the community. So unless you go looking for it, you shouldn’t find too much weird stuff, but this is the internet.
It is also easy to install the mods. The most popular site for Skyrim mods has its own installer/downloader, so all you do is click a button to download the mod and another to install it. Providing you are not running six gazillion mods at once, you should be fine, but you probably will experience compatibility errors.
This is by far the most common reason for replaying Skyrim. New mods come out daily so it’s really just a matter of time before one comes out that interests you. You’ll find yourself frequently saying, “Wow, wouldn’t that be a good mod to have from the start.” And in seconds you’re hooked, it is just phenomenal.
Roleplay
Now I’m not saying you have to be the Lusty Argonian Maid, but you could be her spear wielding, crack master, khajiit pimp so high on skooma he starts to doubt whether he is actually innocent of those crimes. Or maybe you like to be a bit more normal and decide you want to be a priest, using only restoration magic and hand-to-hand combat.
The point is that the choice is yours, but if you decide to do the first idea then damn well make that a YouTube series because we want to watch that.
DLC
Surprisingly, with the horse armor fiasco of 2006, Bethesda Softworks really pulled their act together with this DLC. It may not be on the scale of the DLC from Oblivion, but for the price you cannot complain.
The first piece, Dawnguard, was interesting. It focuses on a faction of vampires and vampire hunters going toe-to-toe and you can decide to help either side. However, they really needed to put the option in to obliterate both groups… But oh, wait, mods exist!
The second piece, Hearthfire, turned you into a land baron slash home renovator by letting you purchase land and then build you own house with different wings and furniture. This is especially fun as it adds a personal element to the housing system.
The last piece, Dragonborn, was a very big expansion adding the island of Solstheim and the option to fight an ancient evil. It is a very unique setting and adds some of the best items in the game. The story is interesting enough for one play through. The side quests, new armor, and weapons is where you really get your money’s worth.
Together, they add at least 40 hours more gameplay to an already huge game and are well worth the purchase if you have not already done so.
Pick it up Cheap on a Console
Now this may seem weird but PC Gaming Master Race be damned, Oblivion was the first love to many on the Xbox 360 and the same with Morrowind on the Xbox. You can really have a blast with Skyrim on consoles. This is because it doesn’t come with the hassle of the above points like mods. Sometimes, it is refreshing just to sit back, relax, and play Skyrim with no strings attached.
You will often find that, although mods are wonderful, getting them to work is a pain in the ass the best of times and just not worth it most days. That is why having a console version is awesome. You can’t mod the console version so it eliminates feeling the need to do so. So for PC gamers who can get a copy for around $15 it is a steal.
