5 Games Begging for VR Support

Think of the things we might see in 2015. Now think of the things you want see in virtual reality. Now read this feature and see if we had the same thoughts.

Now that GTA V has been updated with a very entertaining and hilarious first person mode, virtual reality support would make it one hell of a ride. Imagine running and gunning with Trevor, cruising in Franklin’s sweet ride or visiting strip clubs in glorious 3D. Not to mention the experience it would be online. Just think of all that wacky mayhem happening right before your eyes.

It’s fair to assume though that Rockstar may not want to invest time in developing support for virtual reality for a game they have released twice already, although they did surprise us with that first person mode, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility. And even if Rockstar doesn’t, some crazy modder out there somewhere will probably try.

Dead Island (Series)

Who wouldn’t want virtual reality whilst fighting off multiple members of the undead. Wielding an array of weapons from machetes to handguns. They could even market it with a free change of pants.

Virtual reality could be the very thing that rockets this game back into the spotlight and saves it from, well, the graveyard. We have already seen confirmation for games like Dying Light and the Left 4 Dead series about getting support for the Oculus Rift, so why not Dead Island?

For Techland to invest time and money into making this happen it would be a gamble and considering the comparatively small ‘modding’ community, don’t expect this to be happening soon, if at all. Still we can hope that with a new Dead Island game comes renewed possibility in regards to virtual reality.

Forza (Series)

Forza 5 is, for many driving game enthusiasts, a top tier simulation experience. Now accompany that with virtual reality and a steering wheel rig, and you have yourself a winning combination. Just imagine the feel of your favorite car experienced in true immersion. It would be breath taking . . . And probably nauseating.

There’s reason to believe that some kind of virtual reality headset for the Xbox One is on the way. This is great because Forza probably isn’t coming to PCs and Oculus Rift. Most likely though, Turn 10 Studios will hold off on VR support for a future Forza title. Perhaps if a new Forza Motorsport comes out this year and  Microsoft surprises us with new VR hardware, if we’re really lucky, we could have a VR supported Forza game for 2015.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Now this one is a wild card. After the less than stellar release of its successor, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, it is very much in the air what will happen to the Amnesia series going forward, but one thing is for certain; virtual reality would bring it back to lofty peaks from whence it came. The only draw back is they do not have wireless Oculus Rifts yet as you would need to play on the toilet to avoid outlandish laundry bills.

Considering the series is still owned by Frictional Games we may yet see this beloved franchise be picked back up and given a second shot. If so, virtual reality would be the way to do it.

Mirror’s Edge 2

Mirror’s Edge was an iconic game and we know we’re getting a sequel with Mirror’s Edge 2. That right there is already exciting, but imagine it with virtual reality? Standing thousands of feet above the ground on a building looking down and then sprinting off and free running over obstacles. It would be worth every cent.

It sure would raise the hype level to astronomical levels, but would EA choose this game to be its flagship into virtual reality? Here’s hoping!
