FIFA 23 continues to roll out the promotions, and if you’re an Ultimate Team enthusiast that’s either good news or you’re beyond overwhelmed by now. No matter the case, there are even more specialty cards available for players to get their hands on, so we’re going to walk you through what Out of Position players are and how to get them in FIFA 23.
What Are Out of Position Players in FIFA 23?
Live now and in packs for the following week, the premise of Out of Position players in FIFA 23 is simple: A player at a specific position simply changes to one they haven’t played in. For example, Mohamed Salah is now a Striker, which kind of feels like cheating. And if that weren’t enough, João Cancelo is now a Central Midfielder. Neat.
Theo Hernández plays on the left wing instead of at LB, and the same goes for Reece James but on the right — once a wing back, now a winger. Now that we’ve gone through the scarier selections, let’s talk about how to get them.
How to Get Out of Position Players in FIFA 23
As with every FUT promotion, there are multiple ways to secure a special card. Depending on where you’re at in-game currency wise, though, you may be a bit limited. Of course you could always purchase FIFA points, but that is an option we will never recommend. So here’s how you can potentially get an OOP player:
- Buying/Opening Packs.
- Squad Building Challenges.
- Specific, Special Season Objectives.
Whenever a new promotion drops, SBCs and theme-based objectives shine a little brighter. While some SBCs can be quite pricey, the specific objectives are typically a bit simpler. And yes, the card you get through an SBC is almost always going to be superior to the one you grind objectives for. Yet it’s always going to be up to you to decide whether or not these cards, if any, are worthy of a place in your squad.
Be sure to check the SBC and Objective pages daily right around midday to see whether or not more have been added. Chances are that if it’s during the week, there will be something new. Lastly, let’s take a look at the players that could possibly be yours.

Okay so obviously, players would love to be able to get one of either Salah, Cancelo, Hernández, or James. Right? FUT fanatics love their pace, and gosh, Cancelo in the center of midfield with that passing ability? Unfair. Absurd. However, we’re going to give a shout to two others that would be a delight to experience.
First off, Dumfries at CDM with his 91 PHY attribute? Get out of here. Just plant him in your midfield and bully every single body that dares to come into your path. After that, Isaak Touré. He’s the “worst” of the bunch at 83 overall, but here’s what’s fun about his card: Normally a central defender for Marseille, they’ve thrown him up top. Why? Probably because he stands 6’9″. Needless to say, there’s fun to be had there.
