HBO is making a show based on the Last of Us, a 2013 video game about a pandemic far worse than COVID-19 that causes the collapse of U.S. society. In honor of the game, the show will also be called The Last of Us; it premiers in 2023. It’s natural to wonder if the show will be true to the game, especially the year where everything takes place. Here’s everything you need to know about when the Last of Us TV show takes place in our real-world timeline.
When The Last of Us TV Show Happens
The show takes place in 2033, like the game it’s based on. The Last of Us features notable actors from Game of Thrones like Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as the main characters Joel and Ellie, respectively. Joel and Ellie travel across the U.S. searching for a cure for the Cordyceps fungus turning millions into zombies.
The Last of Us show has a lot to live up to: the 2013 video game sold over a million copies the week after its release and was praised by critics for its story and graphics. Due to its popularity, The Last of Us received content additions. The Last of Us Part 1 is a remake of the game for PlayStation 5. If the show is received as well as its most recent remake, Pedro Pascal might not be available for season 4 of The Mandalorian.
