Icons have been around in FIFA’s Ultimate Team mode for years now, and they’re back once again in FIFA 23. Representing the very best players to ever grace the game, having just one Icon in your Ultimate Team can be a real boon to how your team performs on the pitch. Unsurprisingly, these are also some of the rarest cards in the game. But fear not, as Twinfinite is here to guide you through all Icon players in FIFA 23, how to get Icons, and explain the all-new Campaign Icons introduced this year.
How to Get Icon Cards in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team
There are four ways to get Icons in FIFA 23:
- Opening Packs
- Completing Icon Swap SBCs
- Completing Icon Player-Specific SBCs
- Buy One from the Transfer Market
Opening Packs
The chances of you packing an Icon are incredibly low. As in, way below a 0.1% that you’ll get an Icon in almost every type of pack in the game.
If you do manage to get insanely lucky and pack one. Congratulations, you’re one of a very small number of players that will likely get one this way. We certainly wouldn’t recommend spending a bunch of Coins and FIFA Points on packs in the hopes of getting an Icon, though.
Icon Swap SBCs
Icon Swap SBCs have been a thing for a few years now, and if EA continues its trend of doing Icon Swap SBCs in FIFA 23, these are possibly the easiest way of getting one without spending an insane amount of Coins or playing the odds game with packs (and spending a lot of Coins and Points in the process).
These SBCs (Squad Building Challenges) require players to complete specific objectives to get Icon Swap cards or tokens, which can then be entered into an SBC in exchange for an Icon.
The objectives are always pretty tricky and will probably require you to change up the players in your team in order to complete them, but they’re a fun thing to work towards if you’re getting tired of using the same old team and fancy a bit of a challenge.
Icon Player SBCs
Separate to Icon Swaps are just Icon player SBCs. These often have very high requirements to complete, such as having a high overall rating, high chemistry, featuring special or ‘promo’ cards, and a number of rare players.
The advantage to completing these, though, is you know exactly what player you’re going to get when you start the SBC, rather than getting a random one from Icon Swaps or by obtaining one in a pack. The better the Icon card, the more expensive their SBC will be to complete, however, so keep this in mind.
Like the Icon Swap SBCs, these will not be live from the very beginning. EA tends to introduce these a few months into the game’s annual lifespan, so you’ll have to bide your time.
Buying From Transfer Market
Last but by no means least, you’ve got the transfer market. Some players may pack an Icon and would rather have the massive amount of Coins they sell for rather than having them on their team.
Be warned, though, as Icons can go for a massive premium on the market. For example, at the time of writing, a Zidane is going for 2,162,000 Coins!
These prices will drop as time goes on, and more and more Icons are packed by players, but they’re still far more expensive than most other cards in the game.

Campaign Icons Are New to FIFA 23
In past FIFA’s, players have had the chance of getting themselves an Icon Moments player. Moments players would grant increased stats and attributes over an Icon’s standard cards, but EA Sports felt these didn’t keep up with new promo releases, and so Icons, despite representing the best players football has ever seen, didn’t feel that way in-game.
As such, Campaign Icons are replacing them. These will be released more frequently as part of the promotional campaigns throughout the year and will essentially ensure that Icon players feel as dominant on the pitch in-game as they did in real life.
The specifics around how you’ll get these don’t appear to have been shared just yet, but as soon as we have more information, we’ll let you know.
That’s everything you need to know about Icons in FIFA 23, including how to get them, all Icon player cards, and the new Campaign Icons.
