Of the many elements adapted into gameplay mechanics for Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling Into Darkness, the Curs of the Abyss is the most fiendish. Constantly punishing you with a myriad of effects if you try to climb out of the titular pit, it’s a debuff you constantly have to account for and deal with no matter how long you play the game. As such, you wouldn’t be blamed for wondering: Is there a way to stop Curse of the Abyss in Made in Abyss Binary Star? Well, for better or worse, we’ve got an answer.
Can You Stop the Curse of the Abyss in Made in Abyss Binary Star? Answered
Unfortunately, there’s no real way to stop the Curse of the Abyss from affecting you in Made in Abyss Binary Star. This is because the Curse is an active part of the Made in Abyss universe just as much as it is a gameplay mechanic. It serves as a narrative device that forces you and other characters in the game to carefully consider how deep they dive into the Abyss, how long it will take to return to the surface, and other such factors.
There are Relics mentioned in the story that could theoretically stop the Curse from affecting your character, such as the Curse Repelling Vessel. Unfortunately, they’re not made available as usable items and can’t be obtained as a result.
How to Manage the Effects of the Curse of the Abyss
To that end, it’s best to instead know how to manage the Curse of the Abyss‘ effects in Made in Abyss Binary Star. When it’s triggered in the first and second layers, your character will vomit profusely and suffer a heavy hit to their Hunger meter.
This can be remedied by eating food and staying still until the Depth meter turns white. The third layer has a heavier hunger toll in addition to impairing your view of the game. Again, both these issues can be remedied by eating food and waiting until the Depth meter turns white.
For the Fourth and Fifth layers, your Health will also be impacted in addition to your Hunger and view of the game. To remedy the Curse at either of these stages, use either a Bandage or Hemostasis Leaf for healing and Food to remedy your hunger. Try to stay as still as possible, or to at least make your way downward toward a safe place until the Depth meter returns to white.
Past that, try to progress upward as slowly as possible. It’s not the most entertaining way to play the game, but the effects of the Curse can be avoided entirely if you’re ascent is gradual and careful enough.
