CoD Modern Warfare 2 Game Modes

As part of the Modern Warfare 2 Beta, players will be able to team up in various modes and challenge themselves against others. The included modes are:

  • Team Deathmatch
  • Domination
  • Prisoner Rescue
  • Knock Out
  • Search & Destroy

We’ll go over each one in a little more detail down below.

Team Deathmatch

Team Deathmatch is Call of Duty in its simplest form, where teams simply have to eliminate opponents to be the last ones standing. While lives are unlimited, every death means a point for the opposing team, and reaching the specific target, such as 75 in public matches, wins you the match.

Domination

Two teams of 1-6 players will compete for control of three zones on the map marked by flags, as well as with lettered waypoints – A, B, and C – in boxes as icons on the mini-map. Spawning on opposite sides of the map, it will take planning and strategic movement in order to both attack and defend adequately at the same time.

The first team to reach a specific number of points – 200, usually – wins the match. Ties can occur at halftime (100-100), but the Score Limit can be broken in the final round to determine a winner (201-200).

Prisoner Rescue

Leave no man behind in Prisoner Rescue, a mode where two lives hang in the balance. Either as the Attackers or Defenders, the former will attempt to find hostages and extract them, while the latter will fight tooth and nail to keep the hostages close to their spawn area.

Of course, when holding a hostage, both movement and shooting is limited, and only through teamwork can there be a chance of success. Holding a hostage also brings a UAV ping around the player, allowing for the detection of opposing forces, and the first team to get 500 Points wins the match.

Knock Out

A brand-new mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Knock Out is a fast-paced and exciting twist on games like Capture the Flag and Cyber Attack from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Two teams, spawning on opposite sides of the map, must fight over a bag of Cash located in the middle of the map. Simply running over that bag will capture it for the team, just like a flag in Capture the Flag.

Teams switch spawns every two rounds, and the bag’s location changes between one of three central locations each round, so the first team to take five rounds wins a match of Knock Out.

Search & Destroy

Search & Destroy is a round-based objective game mode where each player has only one life per round, and at the start of each round, one team is put on offense, and one team is put on defense. The former must plant a bomb and defend it till it explodes to win a round, while the latter is to defend a pair of bomb sites from the attackers, defusing planted bombs if need be.

The first team to take four rounds wins Search & Destroy match.
