Political intrigue is ramping up in House of the Dragon, now that King Viserys’ wife is dead, and the major players are revealing themselves and their intentions for the Iron Throne. Even Daemon Targaryen is causing trouble by seizing Dragonstone, declaring a marriage to Mysaria, and stealing a dragon egg for his unborn child. Is it a sneaky ploy or was Mysaria really pregnant in House of the Dragon?
Warning: The following article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon season 1, episode 2.
Was Mysaria Really Pregnant in House of the Dragon?
No, Mysaria wasn’t really pregnant in House of the Dragon, as it was just a lie Daemon told to justify his act of stealing a dragon egg. Considering Mysaria’s reaction to the news of her supposed pregnancy and wedding, she wasn’t clued in on Daemon’s shenanigans, either.
It’s unlikely to ever come true because, according to Mysaria, “I ensured long ago that I would never be threatened by childbirth,” which strongly suggests she is incapable of having children. Daemon wasn’t aware of that fact, nor does he seem to care, but he’s now placed a bullseye on Mysaria’s back.
Compared to the book, Fire & Blood, the events unfold very differently. Daemon leaves for Runestone, sends a very pregnant Mysaria away, but she loses the child in a storm while sailing back to Lys. It’s that unfortunate event that creates a schism between Daemon and Viserys.
While Mysaria wasn’t really pregnant in House of the Dragon, the sneak peek of episode 3 in episode 2 reveals that Alicent Hightower will be at some point in the future. If you can’t get enough House of the Dragon, read up on Game of Thrones spin-offs in development.
