Rockstar’s iconic open-world game is still among the most popular today despite having launched almost a decade ago. Its multiplayer, in particular, is thriving, but is GTA 5 crossplay? Here’s what you need to know about its cross-platform play and whether you can enjoy the experience of playing with friends across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
Is GTA V Crossplay? GTA V Cross-Platform Play Explained
Unfortunately, GTA 5 does not support crossplay. Despite the immense popularity of the game and the many updates issued over the years since its launch, there is no cross-platform play option. That means if you’re playing on, for example, PS5, you won’t be able to play with those on Xbox Series X.
It’s also worth noting that while GTA 5 does support cross-generation play, it’s only functional if you are using the same version of the game. For example, those running the original version of the game on, say, PS4, can play with those on PS5. But if you’ve purchased the Enhanced version of GTA 5 for PS5, you can only play with others who also own the Enhanced version.
The only form of crossplay functionality in GTA 5, if you can even call it that, is on PC, where Steam players can play multiplayer with those running the game via the Epic Games client.
As for whether GTA 5 will ever feature full crossplay, there’s no official word on the matter. In all honesty, it’s highly unlikely. The development of such a feature would take time and money which, given the game’s continued popularity, doesn’t seem as though it’s necessary. Not to mention, we already know Rockstar is hard at work on GTA 6, which will be taking up a huge amount of development effort.
Of course, one should never say never. We’ll keep this article updated if we ever hear of a future update. Until then, that’s everything there is to know about GTA 5 crossplay.
