The current person who sits on the Iron Throne is King Viserys Targaryen, a man that the Lords of Westeros deemed worthy. However, his reign might not be for long since the Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon trailer revealed a war regarding his next successor.

King Viserys is a kind-hearted man with a will to carry on his grandfather’s (Jaehaerys Targaryen) legacy. During the events of the trailer, he seems to be at odds with choosing his heir because he must decide if it should be his daughter, Rhaenyra, or his brother, Daemon.

Many of the people in Westeros are firmly against Rhaenyra as the Queen since she is a woman, which was a taboo concept at the time. For example, Rhaenys Targaryen states, “A woman would not inherit the Iron Throne. Because that is the order of things.”

The video also showcases Daemon threatening King Viserys since he strongly believes that he should succeed the throne, primarily because he is a man.

According to the lore of GOT, Viserys was once a dragon rider due to the Targaryen’s strong connection to the mystical creatures. Some had even believed that Viserys’ rule was when the house was at its strongest because they had many loyal members and fearsome dragons.

The king’s good fortune eventually took a dramatic turn when the civil war, known as the Dance of Dragons, started to brew and cause problems during this time of peace. We can undoubtedly expect to see more of this specific occurrence since the latest show’s premise heavily focuses on this infamous battle.
