Elden Ring: How to Cure Scarlet Rot

how to cure scarlet rot

Enemies in Elden Ring are often dangerous not merely because of the physical damage they can cause but also the status ailments they inflict. These status ailments build over time, and if they reach a certain threshold, they’ll take effect and cause your character to quickly lose health. Each typically has more than a single way of curing, but typical of a FromSoftware title, the game isn’t especially clear about what those are. Here’s how to cure scarlet rot in Elden Ring if you’re struggling to work it out.

How to Cure Scarlet Rot in Elden Ring

As mentioned above, there are multiple options to cure scarlet rot in Elden Ring, though one of them won’t be available to every character build given that it requires a certain level of Faith.

Curing Scarlet Rot With Preserving Bolus

First, let’s review the easiest and most readily available cure: Taking a Preserving Bolus.

This item can be found throughout The Lands Between, though most plentifully in Caelid given that so many enemies there inflict scarlet rot. As you can see above, they look like balls of moss. Taking one eliminates scarlet rot and removes any build-up you have accumulated. Preserving Bolus is found in many locations, but you can find it beside Shack of the Rotting near the Rotview Balcony site of Grace in the northwest part of Caelid. There is also a merchant nearby who sells it; he’s located to the east of the Astray from Caelid Highway North site of Grace, and he sells Preserving Bolus for 2500 runes each.

Alternatively, you can actually craft Preserving Bolus if you have the Armoror’s Cookbook (6), which is found in the Siofra River underground area. To get it, travel west of the Siofra River Bank site of Grace and retrieve it from a corpse on the cliffside.

You will then need the following resources to craft Preserving Bolus:

  • 1x Sacramental Bud
  • 1x Crystal Cave Moss
  • 2x Dewkissed Herba

Curing Scarlet Rot With Flame, Cleanse Me

The other method of curing scarlet rot involves using a Faith incantation called ‘Flame, Cleanse Me.’ This incantation requires 12 Faith, so you won’t have to invest too many points into Faith in order to use it. It can also be cast with a basic Seal, such as the Finger Seal which is available to purchase for 800 Runes from the Twin Maiden Husks.

The incantation itself is found in the eastern portion of Liurnia of the Lakes, near the Eastern Tableland site of grace.
