Elden Ring: Best Early Game Weapons & How to Get Them

Best Early Game Weapons in Elden Ring

Part of Elden Ring’s charm is that it doesn’t give you a great deal of direction, and you’re very much encouraged to simply go and explore to find valuable loot. But given The Lands Between is so vast, you’re very likely to miss weapons that can give you a huge boost early on in your adventure if you’re not clued in as to where to look. Fear not, Twinfinite is here to offer an overview of the best early game weapons and how to get them in Elden Ring. Let’s dive in!

Best Early Game Weapons & How to Get Them in Elden Ring

The best early game weapons in Elden Ring will differ depending on the character class you have opted for at the beginning of the game, so we’ll highlight a handful of options here and indicate what each is best for.

Twinblade

This weapon is an excellent choice for Dex/Str builds since it scales with Dex and doesn’t require too high of a stat requirement (though you will still need to farm runes and level up before using it). It is found in the Dragon-Burnt Ruins in Limgrave, just southeast of where you start out at The First Steps Site of Grace. Twinfinite actually has a detailed guide explaining where to find it here.

Reduvia Dagger

The Reduvia Dagger is another great choice for Dex/Str, and also Arcane as well. That’s because it scales with Dex and Arcane. To get it, defeat Nejirus outside the Murkwater Cave to get the Reduvia dagger as a reward. Again, we have a detailed guide explaining where to find it here.

Meteorite Staff

While the Astrologer’s Staff is fine for casting all the spells you’ll need to navigate the early game as a sorcerer, it’s far from the most powerful, and even when upgraded is nowhere near as good as the Meteorite Staff. This staff scales S with Intelligence, which is incredibly powerful for Intelligence builds. It is located quite a long way from the starting point of the game in Limgrave, but it’s possible to ride there on Torrent and quickly grab it before fighting any of the dangerous enemies nearby. Again, we have a detailed guide explaining where to find it here.

Greataxe

If you have opted for a Strength build then there’s no better starting weapon than the hefty Greataxe. That said, you really do need to make sure you’re going to shape your build around it given that it requires so many points poured into strength to actually wield. Still, it’s extremely powerful once you have met the requirements. It is located within a chest on the back of a wagon that is being towed by two giants through Limgrave, just south-east of the Gatefront Ruins. Due to their size, you really can’t miss them! Only one needs to be felled to stop the carriage and loot the chest at the rear.

Great Epee

This Great Epee is great Dex option for those who still want to use a shield, which the two-handed Twinblade does not. It’s also just easier to handle than the Twinblade, thanks to its basic stab and slash moveset. You can find it right at the southern tip of Limgrave, east of the Forlorn Hound Evergaol. There you will find an enemy encampment, and inside the base is a chest that contains the rapier.

That should give you everything you need to know about the best early game weapons and how to get them in Elden Ring. Be sure to search for Twinfinite or check our guide wiki for more tips, tricks, and information on the game.
