There is, of course, a handy password system to be sure you will get to play with only your friends in Elden Ring. The days of sorting through summon signs on the floor before a boss gate are long gone.

Though, as you might expect, you will still need a couple in-game items to actually join up together. On each side of things, the host and the one being summoned will need a separate item, but as they are important items to the game, you should easily have both.

  1. While in game, press the Menu/Options button to bring up the menu. Choose the Multiplayer option.

  2. Set a password to share with your friends once you are ready, make sure you both have the same password set.

  3. The one being summoned will need the Tarnished’s Furled Finger item to place a summon sign.

You’ll need to be in a zone where summoning is allowed, and use the Tarnished Furled Finger to place your sign in a specific spot. Let your friend know where you’ve left the sign.

  4. On the host’s side, head to where your friend has left their sign, then use a Furlcalling Finger Remedy to reveal all available summoning signs.

If both of you have entered the same matchmaking password, the host should only be able to find their friend’s sign on the ground. The Remedy is a consumable item, and you’ll need to craft it with two Erdleaf Flowers. However, these flowers are very easily found in the open-world so you shouldn’t have too much trouble gathering them.

There you have it, everything you need to know to summon and play online multiplayer online with friends in Elden Ring.
