With only a few days to go, the world is getting ready to welcome Animal Crossing: New Horizons DLC in the form of Happy Home Paradise on November 5. This is a huge addition to an already expansive game, with a potentially game-changing mechanic, where players can help design custom vacation homes and put those techniques to good use on their own island.

If you have been searching for a new way to harness your creativity in home designing and building, then you are in the right spot. Here’s everything new in Animal Crossing New Horizons: Happy Home Paradise DLC.

Getting Work Done

What’s New in Happy Home Paradise DLC

The meat of the whole experience comes from the folks over at Paradise Planning, giving you a chance to become the vacation home designer in a brand new archipelago made up of different islands. Alongside Lottie the otter, Niko the monkey, and Wardell the manatee there’s a whole new world awaiting your arrival.

By listening to the villagers and understanding what they like, you can then work your magic. You can meet different villagers during your work, or use amiibo to help your personal favorites.

Once you are done with a job, completed vacation homes can also be showcased via the Happy Home Network app. If you much rather get inspiration from other players, you can check out their designs as well.

Better yet, you do not even have to count on your own inventory, sparse or extensive as it is, the Happy Home Paradise DLC provides it all. Working hard is its own reward, but the game will be giving you a good incentive to try your hardest as well.

Earn Poki & Buy Rare Items

What’s New in Happy Home Paradise DLC

By listening intently and making your customers happy, you will be earning Poki, the new currency that can be used to purchase exclusive and rare items from the Happy Home store on the archipelago. These items can be taken with you to use on your main island.

Furthermore, once you have enough satisfied customers, you will be able to take that rare furniture and shiny new stuff back and use it for your own interior decor. Once you are done with your own home, turn your sights onto the other characters sharing the island with you. It’s time to take care of those awful-looking homes and stamp your style on them for all to see.

More Ways to Decorate

What’s New in Happy Home Paradise DLC

We already know that the 2.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons will expand upon the base experience, but with the Happy Home Paradise DLC, the same goes for your designing options in the archipelago and back home. How is that experience changing? There are several things to note for the aspiring home designer in you.

Interior Expansion

The standard housing for your clients and even islanders back home can be too small sometimes, and Nintendo is rectifying that issue with the Happy Home Paradise DLC. The sizes of houses can now be tweaked, and you can finally settle on what would be the perfect space for any of the characters in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

In addition, you can further spice things up with the help of lighting such as ceiling lights and soundscapes, with the increased flexibility likely to suit all sorts of environments and designs.

Need that extra sparkle to catch the eye? Furniture can be polished to a shine, with special effects happening for certain items. So if you want things to look extra nice, it’s time to get your hands dirty.

Breaking Things Up

With the added size, it is also fitting that players now get the ability to use partition walls. This can help divide up bigger spaces into mini rooms, each with a distinct personality and feel if you prefer. Pillars can also be added to bring out the aesthetic, and even counter heights can be adjusted to fit your stylistic requirements.

Design Your Own Schools, Restaurants & Hospitals

All of the new changes definitely make a difference, especially as you can now design facilities to liven things up. Be it restaurants, schools, or even theatres, your imagination is the only thing holding you back. Now everyone will have renewed purpose with even more things to do at these new places.

During the Animal Crossing Direct, we even saw some of our favorite villagers working at the restaurant or studying at the school. Exactly how this will work is unclear at the time of writing.

Outdoors Designing

You will finally have the ability to decorate the outdoor areas and gardens.

It is likely that most furniture can be used outside, and adding fencing just gives everything that extra touch of class.

Weather Control

If that is not enough, players will be able to dictate just how you can show off your house in different weather, seasons, and even time of day. For that searching for that perfect rainy day abode, this is your chance to show what you can do with the tools in your arsenal.

Quality of Life

In addition to all the new tools, the DLC also improves the quality-of-life experience overall. You can start customizing furniture when decorating a room, while placing items in the exterior areas are made easier with a new grid system.

For those that need to move houses, you will no longer require a construction permit from Tom Nook.

Getting Ready for Happy Home Paradise DLC

If these new additions are getting you all excited, you can pre-order and pre-load the Happy Home Paradise DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons now. It is available for $24.99 via the Nintendo eShop. Alternatively, you can upgrade your Nintendo Switch Online subscription with the recently announced Expansion Pack to receive the DLC for free.

With this being the first and only paid DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Happy Home Paradise DLC will arrive alongside the last major free update for the game. This does not mean it is the end of your island journey, it might actually be the perfect chance for a fresh start.
