How to Evolve Yanma Into Yanmega in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

One of the most beloved aspects of the original Gen 4 Pokemon games is that they went back and added evolutions to otherwise obscure ‘mons. One of the more forgettable Gen 2 Pokemon was Yanma. A kind of cute-looking Dragonfly that, sadly, wasn’t really capable of much in battle. Its evolution, on the other hand, is far more formidable and looks badass. In this guide, we’re going to go over how you can evolve Yanma into Yanmega in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Bug/Flying types in Pokemon are a kind of dime a dozen. There are plenty of them, and most aren’t very good, so in order to stand out, you need to bring something to the table. For many years, Yanma was yet another forgettable Bug/Flying.

Gen 4, however, added Yanmega as a new evolution and it instantly became one of the best Bug Pokemon in the game, and it still remains that way ’till this day. That is thanks to Yanmega’s high Speed, high Special Attack, and access to two excellent abilities: Tinted Lens and, even better, Speed Boost.

To evolve Yanma into Yanmega, level up Yanma when it knows the move Ancient Power. It’ll learn the move naturally at level 33.

In the event that you’re trying to evolve a Yanma that has not learned the move Ancient Power and won’t have another opportunity to do so since it’s higher than 33, you’ll need to relearn the move instead (or breed/catch another Yanma, but let’s put that obvious option aside).

The Move Relearner in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl can help you relearn Ancient Power. You can find them in the house located northeast of the Pokemart in Pastoria City. Get that taken care of, and you’ll be all set.

That’s all you need to know for how to evolve Yanma into Yanmega in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. For more FAQs answered and other tips, tricks, and guides visit our Pokemon Shining Pearl and Brilliant Diamond guide wiki.
