One of the most beloved aspects of the original Gen 4 Pokemon games is that they went back and added evolutions to otherwise obscure ‘mons. Perhaps one of the most obscure of the original 151 is Tangela. There are many memorable Grass-types in the original Red and Blue games, such as Bulbasaur, or the Bellsprout/Oddish lines. Tangela, though, is just kind of there. Fortunately, Gen 4 makes Tangela a bit more interesting. In this guide, we’re going to go over how you can evolve Tangela into Tangrowth in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Evolving Tangela into Tangrowth in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Out of all the Grass types in the original 151, Tangela is definitely… one of them. It wasn’t particularly good at anything and was just kind of there. It had a cool design though! So I guess that counts for something.
Gen 4, however, added Tangrowth as a new evolution stage and Tangela instantly became a lot less sad. Tangrowth is bulky and has very high attack making it, especially at the time, one of the hardest-hitting physical Grass-types in the game.
To evolve Tangela into Tangrowth, level up Tangela when it knows the move Ancient Power. It’ll learn the move naturally at level 24.
In the event that you’re trying to evolve a Tangela that has not learned the move Ancient Power and won’t have another opportunity to do so since it’s higher than 24, you’ll need to relearn the move instead (or breed/catch another Tangela, but let’s put that obvious option aside).
The Move Relearner in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl can help you relearn Ancient Power. You can find them in the house located northeast of the Pokemart in Pastoria City. Get that taken care of, and you’ll be all set.
