7 Things to Do First in Far Cry 6

So you’ve picked up Far Cry 6 and you’re just about to start your conquest to tackle Anton Castillo’s corrupt regime once and for all? But wait! In true Far Cry fashion, there’s an absolute ton of stuff to see and do, so where do you start? Here are 7 things to do first in Far Cry 6.

Download the HD Texture Pack (PS5, Series X|S, & PC Only)

Things to Do First in Far Cry 6

This one is just for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC players, but when you’re installing or downloading the game, make sure you’re also downloading the ‘HD Texture Pack’ whilst you’re at it.

It’s another 20-odd GB to download on console and 37GB on PC, but it’s well worth doing. This essentially gets you all the enhancements to Far Cry 6’s visuals that your PS5, Series X|S, and PC unlock over the last-gen versions of the game. It may take a little while to download (depending on your internet connection) but we can assure you it’s well worth it.

We also think at least 5GB of that is spent on the insane level of detail in Anton Castillo’s (Giancarlo Esposito) face. We kid… or do we?

Pick Your Dani Rojas

Things to Do First in Far Cry 6

Right at the beginning of your adventure in Far Cry 6, you’ll need to make a rather simple choice. Will Dani Rojas be male or female?

It’s not going to change anything else in the game outside of the voice acting and whether your Dani will have a male or female appearance, so don’t worry about it too much. From our experience, the voice acting for both Danis is pretty solid, so this is simply personal preference. Get it picked and get ready to move on to the action!

Get ‘The Autocrat’ Pistol

Things to Do First in Far Cry 6

Following your brief encounter with Anton and Diego Castillo at the beginning of the game, you’ll awaken on the shore of the tutorial island. After a quick visit to the Libertad outpost, you’ll then go about doing a few different basic quests and it’s during one of these quests that you can get one of my personal favorite weapons in the entire game.

The one you’ll want to keep an eye out for is when Juan Cortez sends you to a place called Fort Quito to get some Depleted Uranium. During this, you’ll sneak in or take out a bunch of guards to clear it of enemies.

After doing this, before leaving, head down into the basement by finding a ladder on the inside on its south side. Down here, you’ll find a weapon crate that contains ‘The Autocrat’ pistol. We’ve got a full guide breaking down the steps of how to get it here.

Not only does it look cool, but The Autocrat basically remains a one-hit kill on any human enemy with a headshot. Doesn’t matter if they’re wearing full armor or not, it’s a one-hit kill. Even if you hit them in the body, it’ll still deal crazy damage thanks to its perks.

This is a must to get while you’re on the tutorial island, so don’t miss it.

Start the ‘Triada Blessings’ Quest

Things to Do First in Far Cry 6

On the very same tutorial island of Isla Santuario, you’ll find a hidden cave (Oluwa Cave) not too far from where the Libertad camp is set up. It’s tucked away, but there’s a quest marker here that you should absolutely follow.

When you find the cave and head inside, you’ll ultimately come to a room where you can interact with the ground. Do so and you’ll begin Far Cry 6’s Triada Blessing quest.

You’ll then need to find and return all three Oluwa Relics to the cave, and surprise surprise, they’re scattered across the three different regions of the main island of Yara.

It’s now up to you whether you want to pick these off as you make your way through the game, or make a beeline to each of them. All three locations are marked on your map, and they’re relatively easy to get, but they may take a bit of time to travel to as the map is pretty enormous.

Either way, you’ll want to do this because not only will you get the Oluso panther amigo for completing the quest, but you’ll also get a ‘Stealth’-based Supremo and a gun that can shoot through walls when combined with said Supremo. It’s easily one of the best guns in the game, and having a mythical panther by your side is always gonna be a winner for us.

Play Around in Photo Mode

The country of Yara is a real pretty one, even if it is ravaged by corruption and a deadly chemical being sprayed on its tobacco plants to make the Viviro drug that helps cure cancer. Whether it’s epic explosions you’re responsible for, some of the outrageous things you stumble upon around Yara, or just a really picturesque view off the coast, there’s plenty of moments you’re going to ‘ooooh’ and ‘aaaah’ at, and want to snap a photo of.

Well, the good news is that Far Cry 6 has a photo mode to help your ‘ooooohs’ and ‘aaaahs’ last forever and look even better. There are a plethora of options here, too, so you really artsy folks out there can really get into the nitty-gritty and show off your photo editing skills.

Me? I’m just here for those pretty views. And yes, I’m ashamed I didn’t actually use photo mode for this one *facepalm*.

Set Guapo on Some Enemies for Fun

Things to Do First in Far Cry 6

During the opening hour or so of Far Cry 6, you’ll meet Juan Cortez and his buddy Guapo. And by buddy, we mean pet crocodile wearing a shirt. We had a feeling that might pique your interest.

Well, the good news is that Guapo can be your partner throughout your entire adventure across Yara as you topple Castillo’s regime, should you want him to be. He’ll even eat people at your will!

Once you’ve made pals by petting the good crocco (think doggo, but the crocodile variety), you can simply set him charging down any poor enemy by moving your reticle over them and pressing right on the D-Pad.

Now you just sit back and watch as your new best mate tears them limb from limb. Lovely stuff!

Soak Up the Sights of Yara

Things to Do First in Far Cry 6

We know some of you out there will go rolling your eyes at this one, but just hear us out. The map of Yara is absolutely massive. There’s a ton of stuff packed into it, and if you just go from main mission to main mission, you’re going to miss out on some of the epic Yaran Stories and Treasure Hunts that the game’s tucked away in some of its lesser-explored corners.

Fancy a little quest in ode to Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull? How about stumbling upon an eccentric artist who uses human materials in his work? Or what about exploring a haunted house, or a cave for that matter?

These are all in Far Cry 6, and if you’re not taking the time to explore and interact with the world around you outside of main missions, there’s a good chance you’ll never find them because of just how big and dense the map is.

Now get out there and start exploring!

Build a Hideout Network at Your Guerrilla Camp

Things to Do First in Far Cry 6

This may seem like a very specific thing to do, and some of the other options may sound a little bit more interesting, but they’re definitely not.

Sure, sure, the Hideout Network unlocks more fast travel locations for you. That’s nice and all, but it also immediately unlocks the Wingsuit for you, which makes traversing through the mountainous terrain of Yara all the more enjoyable.

Clambered your way to the top of a mountain for an objective, only to have to go to another 700m away? Now you can just jump off the edge and glide your way there.

It also makes using the ‘Air Drop’ option at fast travel locations far more useful, as you can get way further with it than you can the basic parachute.
