New World: How to Start in Same Area With Friends

start with friends

Like any MMORPG, New World is best experienced when playing alongside your buddies. The trouble is, even if you invite them to join your group after having first started a new character, you won’t necessarily be completing the early quests alongside them. This can be particularly frustrating as you’re all doing the same thing but on opposite ends of the map. Instead, what you want is to sync up to their story missions and play them together. Thankfully, it’s possible, albeit a little bit tedious. Here’s how to start in the same New World area with friends.

Once you have created your character and watched the opening cinematic, you will then find yourself on a ship-wrecked coast. This is the same for all players, but the stretch of coastline differs. You might find you have spawned near the First Light settlement, for example, while your buddy is near Windsward. This will mean that while your story quests are identical, they send you to different locations across Aeternum.

To sync up, all you need to do is go and complete the very first mission, which simply tasks you with checking in with the NPC beside the watchtower. After you have completed that, do not talk to he/she again. Instead, open your map and notice that there are yellow quest markers across three different starting regions.

You can actually now travel to either of those two other yellow markers and continue the tutorial missions from that point, and this is how you sync up and start with your friends. Just go to the location they are at and continue from there.

Of course, this is going to require you to run several kilometers through some dangerous territory at a very low level. It’s not all that tricky if you just keep running, but it does take 20 minutes or so to complete.
