Today Microsoft hosted a Q&A livestream with the developers of Microsoft Flight Simulator providing new information about upcoming updates.
We hear from head of Microsoft Flight Simulator Jorg Neumann and executive producer Martial Bossard.
First of all, we learn that the next world update is Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
In the video below you can see quite a few landmarks created for the update, including castles, stadiums, and more.
As for airports, we’re getting Lübeck Airport (EDHL) and Klagenfurt (LOWK), and St. Gallen–Altenrhein Airport (LSZR).
There will be at least three new cities rendered in photogrammetry and Wien will be one of them. You can see plenty of images in the video below.
Incidentally, Neumann committed to also improve countries in the southern hemisphere and hopes to go around the world once by the end of next year (during another livestream today we heard that there are two World Updates left this year and six next year).
A new aircraft will also be released by Microsoft at the same time as the world update, and it’s the vintage trimotor Junkers Ju 52. This will actually be a no-compromise aircraft, with every single switch working. The audio has also been recorded from real Ju 52s.
You can see a few images and hear about it in the video below. Both the update and the aircraft should come in late August during Gamescom’s timeline. August 24 is the tentative release date.
Incidentally, Neumann also mentioned that Microsoft is looking into possibly updating airports and points of interest that were released last year with the simulator’s launch. The team is planning to create about 2,000 points of interest next year.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is already available for Windows 10 and Steam and will release on July 27, 2021 for Xbox Series X ad Series S.
