Today Square Enix released a large gallery of screenshots and new details about the upcoming JRPG NEO: The World Ends With You.
We hear mode about the Reaper’s Game, which happens in another dimension named the UG (Underground) where players split in teams strive to complete missions set by Shiba, the Game Master.
Whoever earns the most points over seven days wins and can get their wishes granted. The team who ends last, is erased.
One kind of missions in the Reaper’s Game is Scramble Slam, a city-wide turf war in which they can either erase the orange Turf Noise or take down rival team members to control an area.
Defeating swarms of enemies grants Scramble Points that can be spent for rewards. Chaining battles together increase the points earned further.
Today we also meet more characters, the buff Susukichi and the cute Tsugumi, members of the Ruinbringers team. Fuya belongs to the Deep Riverb Society, Kanon is part of the Variabeauties, and Motoi belongs to the Purehearts.
Of course, it wouldn’t make much sense for a game set in modern Tokyo to have armor and fantasy equipment, so you can increase your attack and defence stats by wearing Threads, including headwear, tops, bottoms, footwear, and accessories.
Threads also have abilities useful in battle, triggered by having enough Style. Talk about a trendy game.
The city of Shibuya has over 40 shops to visit. They sell Threads, pins, food and drink, collectible CDs, and books. Their clerks are unique and have their own personality that gets revealed as you visit.
Various clothing brands have different styles, and the variety of available items increases as you progress with the story and unlock the right conditions.
On the other hand, eating at the various restaurants for which Shibuya is famous increases the characters’ stats. There are over 90 types of food for sale.
We also get to see Remind, Fret’s unique psych, which works with a puzzle minigame that lets him job people’s memory and lets them remember things they have forgotten.
Last, but not least, the screenshots showcase a few new locations. Tipsy Tose Hall from the original game makes a comeback, alongside new places which will prove familiar to people who live in Tokyo or visit often, Shibuya Stream and Takeshita Dori in Harajuku.
If you want to see more about NEO: The World Ends With You, you can enjoy the original announcement, plenty of trailers from yesterday, and another trailer and screenshots.
