Who to Send to Virmire in Mass Effect 1

There aren’t any real consequences for bringing or not bringing certain party members with you to Virmire in Mass Effect.

This is because all the pivotal scenes that play out will occur at a base camp on the planet or over the radio, regardless of whether or not a certain party member is brought with you from the Normandy. Wrex will still need to be talked down from defending the Krogan breeding facility there, and you’ll still need to assign Ashley and Kaiden to specific posts.

You can keep any of these squad members in your party up until they need to be assigned somewhere, and the game will allow you to bring in another party member once they’re off on their task.

Likewise, you’ll still need to choose to save either Kaiden or Ashley at the end of the mission. The game doesn’t swap in different party members for you to choose between, and they’ll be the only ones who can be assigned to arm the bomb and fight alongside Captain Kirrahe.

To that end, you should bring whichever party you’re most comfortable with. The mission can be fairly challenging at points, and you’ll want to have your party optimized to best fit your playstyle as a result.
