Can You Skip Cutscenes in Mass Effect? Answered

As it currently stands, no, you cannot skip cutscenes in any of the Mass Effect games.

The exact reason for this is unknown, but it’s likely because of how intricately the game’s story and the choices you make are tied together. Removing the option to skip cutscenes cuts down on the chances of you accidentally skipping necessary information to inform your decisions, and ensures the story you’ll craft is the one you’ll want.

It’s a bit of a bummer for those replaying the game, as this means you will have to sit through cinematics yet another time.

Fortunately, there is a way to at least speed your way through dialogue-driven scenes. In any interaction where you’re able to choose dialogue, you can skip bits of the exchange one at a time by pressing Square on PlayStation consoles or X on Xbox consoles.

You’ll need to wait a second for each dialogue bit to start before skipping, and certain bits can’t be skipped until the character delivering them stops moving or gesturing. Aside from that though, this skip applies to pretty much every dialogue line across all three games.

Hopefully this cleared up whether or not you can skip cutscenes in Mass Effect. For more on the trilogy, check out our Mass Effect Legendary Edition guide wiki. It has info on a variety of topics that should help you to maximize your enjoyment of the series.
