How Many Biomes There Are in Returnal

There’s a total of six biomes in Returnal that you’ll need to progress through in order to reach the credits in the game. These biomes are essentially different areas on Atropos, which switch up the environments you’ll be battling enemies in. Each one also has its own boss you’ll need to beat in order to advance.

We’ve included a list of all biomes in the game below:

  • Overgrown Ruins
  • Crimson Wastes
  • Derelict Citadel
  • Echoing Ruins
  • Fractured Wastes
  • Abyssal Scar

Once you’ve beaten a biome’s boss once, you’ll be able to pick up a key that enables you to simply head through the door to the next biome without having to fight the boss again in subsequent runs. That being said, defeating bosses nets you some powerful gear, so it’s well worth taking them on if you feel like you’ve got a good roll on your run.

Just because you’ve reached the credits and seen all six biomes, doesn’t mean you’re completely done with Returnal, though. You’ll still need to track down all of the Sunface Fragments scattered throughout the planet in order to get the secret, true ending.

That’s everything you need to know on how many biomes there are in Returnal. For more tips, tricks and guides, head over to our wiki, or see more of our coverage on the game below.
