Outriders is a fantastic game that is best played with others. Certain classes can make for good solo runs, but eventually you’ll want to start getting a little team synergy going and group up with other players. There’s just one problem: As of launch week at least, many players are having problems with Outriders’ matchmaking not working. Here’s how you can alleviate and potentially fix this problem.
How to Fix Outriders Matchmaking Not Working
As of right now, it isn’t exactly clear what is causing Outriders matchmaking to not work. However, developers People Can Fly seem to have hinted that it might have something to do with crossplay.
Outriders features full crossplay, and if you’ve dug around the main menus at all, you might have thought to flip it on. As for why, it’s simple: Outriders isn’t a PvP game and only has cooperative PvE, so there’s no harm in having someone with any potential advantage playing with you. It can only help, and will widen the pool of people to undertake matchmaking with.
However, doing this might actually be the cause of your matchmaking problems. For now, as of early April 2021, developers People Can Fly are recommending that you turn crossplay off, as this will improve the likelihood that you will get matchmade with another player.
I can attest that on Xbox Series X, I was experiencing Outriders matchmaking not working. After turning crossplay off, it did improve. It’s still a bit rough and can take a few minutes to find someone, but it at least has worked sometimes as opposed to never, before I turned the crossplay off.
Give that a shot and see if it fixes your problem of Outriders matchmaking not working. For more tips, tricks and FAQs answered, be sure to check out our Outriders guide wiki or some of our other guides below.
