No matter what town you visit in Nier Replicant, you’ll always be able to find a map that goes over the area. Whenever you enter a new one, simply head over to their item shop.

Once you enter the item shop, go down the list until you find its specific town map. Each map costs you 500 gold apiece. After purchasing it, you’ll have access to the map to help you get around.

Alongside each town map, you’ll likely notice that these vendors also sell additional maps. Purchasing these other items shows you the layout of nearby areas that don’t have shops of their own in them.

It is important to keep this in mind any time you’re exploring a new area, even if it isn’t a town. That way, even if you’re in the Northern Plains or the Desert, you’ll be able to look for a map in a nearby town so you don’t get lost.
