Not every quest in Nier Replicant is as cut and dry as defeating enemies for a reward. Some require you to collect specific items and make choices that can result in different outcomes to the quest. That’s why we’re here today to walk you through Nier Replicant’s Scattered Cargo quest with a detailed guide, covering everything from where to find the items tied to it to what choice you should make at the end of it.
Before going any further though, it’s worth noting that this quest won’t be available until you’ve reached the second half of the game. If you haven’t reached this part of the game yet, then focus on advancing the main story until you do.
Nier Replicant Scattered Cargo Quest Guide
After reaching the second half of the game, Nier Replicant’s Scattered Cargo quest will be available in Seafront.
It’s triggered by speaking to an old woman in front of a tree in the Plaza to the left of the market street. We’ve provided a screenshot of her location down below.
Go to Seafront and speak to the old woman. She’ll tell you about three cargo crates that were lost when a ship went down and offers to pay you if you can find them. The only catch is, they’ve washed up on shores around the world, and she doesn’t know exactly where they are. Likewise, she asks you not to look at what’s inside of them.
Where to Find the Scattered Cargo
The first piece of scattered cargo in Nier Replicant can be found in Seafront. It’ll be on the beach that you need to go to in order to reach the lighthouse, and to the right of where the shipwreck is located. Interact with it once you find it by pressing the Circle Button on PlayStation 4 or the B Button on Xbox One.
You’ll then have the choice to pick it up, or look at what’s inside of it and then pick it up. Looking inside will reveal there are materials like explosives, chemicals, and illegal substances.
The second piece of cargo can be found in Nier’s Village, on the beach to the left of the water wheel and the Market street. Head down to the beach, and then interact with the cargo crate to pick it up. Once again, you’ll have the option to pick it up or look inside and then pick it up. Looking inside will again reveal more suspect materials.
The third and final piece of cargo can be found in the Northern Plains, on the bank of the river running underneath the railway leading into the Junk Heap. Again, you can choose to look inside or leave it alone. Looking inside will reveal yet more suspicious items.
Which Choice You Should Make During Nier Replicant’s Scattered Cargo Quest
After obtaining every piece of Scattered Cargo in Nier Replicant, you’ll be given a choice if you’ve looked inside the crates.
You can either return them to the old woman for your original reward or report her to the authorities. The latter option nets you more money in the short-term, with a total reward of 50,000 gold.
The former option, however, gets you 20,000 gold as well as a bigger selection from the Seafront Item Shop and a 20 percent discount on items bought there. As such, giving the items to the old woman is the best option in the long run.
Regardless, you’ll then need to speak to either the old woman or a guard in Seafront. After speaking to them, you’ll receive your reward and the quest will be complete.
