A new chapter of Genshin Impact content kicks off today as Version 1.4, Invitation of the Windblume, goes live. If this your first time downloading a new expansion for the game, here’s how to update Genshin Impact on PC, PlayStation, and mobile devices.
How to Update Genshin Impact on PC, PlayStation & Mobile
The game should automatically update once the content goes live and you attempt to boot the game for the very first time regardless of which platform you’re playing on.
However, you can actually pre-install updates thanks to a recent update to the client. Doing so will speed the update download since you won’t have to download the latest game resources.
On PC, if you haven’t already updated the Genshin Impact launcher, make sure you do so. After, a “Game Pre-Installation” button will appear to the left of the “Launch” button, which you then need to press.
For iOS & Android users, you can begin pre-installing update resources by going to the Paimon Menu > Settings > Other > Pre-Install Resource Package.
Now you have the latest launcher and its pre-install functionality, you simply need to take the following steps after the server maintenance for the new version has concluded. We’ve listed each platform as per the instruction from developer miHoYo itself.
PC: Close the game, open the Genshin Impact Launcher, and click Update.
iOS: Open the App Store and tap Update.
Android: Open the game and follow the directions on-screen.
PS4: Highlight Genshin Impact from the PS4 Home Screen, press the Options button and select “Check for Update.”
According to miHoYo’s website:
“Using the pre-installation function will reduce the time that the game spends updating resources on the first time you enter Version 1.4, even if you did not fully complete pre-installation.”
