Monster Hunter Rise is the latest entry in Capcom’s popular action RPG series. Much like its predecessors, it features a familiar gameplay loop of hunting down large monsters, carving them up for parts, then using those parts to craft new equipment for yourself, which is a very key part of the experience. Here’s how to upgrade weapons and armor in Monster Hunter Rise.
Upgrading Weapons in Monster Hunter Rise
You’ll start off with a basic version of every weapon type in Monster Hunter Rise, but if you can gather enough materials for it, you’ll be able to upgrade it to make it even more powerful.
Just like in past entries, there are a few different branches you can explore for each weapon. The ‘ore’ route increases your attack power a bit slower, and requires you to mine mineral veins for ore in order to upgrade your weapon.
On the other hand, farming specific parts from monsters can imbue your weapons with special properties as well. New branches will unlock as you encounter more monsters and carve more parts from them.
To upgrade your weapons, talk to the smithy in Kamura Village (he’s right across the Village quest counter), and choose the Weapons option. Select the branch you want, then confirm your selection with the A button if you have the required materials for it.
Upgrading Armor
Upgrading your armor sets in Monster Hunter Rise is a little more straightforward. First off, you can also craft new armor sets by talking to the smithy, and this is typically done by using monster parts you’ve gathered on your quests.
Ideally, you’ll want to have as many armor sets as possible, as each set comes with different resistances and weaknesses, and you’ll need to prepare accordingly for the different monsters you encounter in the game. Because of this, upgrading armor is a little easier.
Talk to the smithy and choose the Armor option, then choose the piece of armor you want to upgrade. All you have to do is spend Armor Spheres to increase the rating of your gear, and pay a small bit of zenny, and you’re all set.
Armor Spheres are fairly easy to come by early on in the game, as they’re usually handed out as quest rewards. This means you should naturally accumulate a good number of them just by making your way through the quest lists.
