There are tons of different armor pieces you can craft in Monster Hunter Rise, and all of them have a distinct look to them. The bad news is, some of these armor sets are really ugly, and even if you like the stats and resistances on them, you might end up hating the way your character looks so much that you can’t even stand playing the game for one more second. Anyway, that’s where Layered Armor comes in. Here’s how Layered Armor works in Monster Hunter Rise.
Monster Hunter Rise Layered Armor Explained
Layered Armor is basically Monster Hunter Rise’s version of transmog.
Essentially, you can use Layered Armor to cover up the appearance of whatever armor you currently have equipped, and this is especially important for players who really value aesthetics, or want to avoid having a mismatched look when equipping pieces from different armor sets.
First off, Layered Armor isn’t readily available in Monster Hunter Rise. At the time of writing, all of the Layered Armor sets are obtained through amiibo scanning, pre-ordering, or through Deluxe and Collector’s Edition bonuses. We’ve listed all available sets down below:
- Kamurai Set – Obtained through Deluxe Edition bonuses
- Forest Cat Set – Obtained through pre-ordering the game
- Palamute Retriever Set – Obtained through pre-ordering the game
- Sinister Seal Set (Palico) – Obtained through Palico amiibo
- Sinister Seal Set (Hunter) – Obtained through Magnamalo amiibo or Collector’s Edition bonuses
- Sinister Seal (Palamute) – Obtained through Palamute amiibo
- Fish Collar – Obtained through Deluxe or Collector’s Edition bonuses
- Shuriken Collar – Obtained through Deluxe or Collector’s Edition bonuses
It’s worth noting that Monster Hunter World eventually got more Layered Armor sets through events and updates, so it’s entirely possible that Monster Hunter Rise players will get to collect more sets in the future as well.
But for now, these are the only sets available and they all require amiibo, pre-orders, or buying the special editions.
How to Equip Layerer Armor Sets
Once you’ve redeemed all your bonuses, simply head over to any item box in the game and choose the Layered Armor option.
From here, you can immediately start customizing your character’s look, or create loadouts to save your favorite looks and outfits.
You can remove your Layered Armor here as well, so when you do find an in-game armor set that you actually like the look of, you can keep that on instead.
