Of course, forging new weapons and armor for your player character should always be your number one priority, but if you want your Buddies to actually be helpful in battle, you need to show them some love as well.

Just like in previous games, it’s possible to craft new gear for them to offer your Buddies more protection, as well as new weapons to make them a bit more powerful.

This isn’t something that the game mentions to you, though, so it can be very easy to miss if you’re not paying attention to your surroundings.

Getting Buddy Armor and Weapons in Monster Hunter Rise

After your first quest and after you’ve been introduced to the smithy in Kamura Village, look to the left of the smithy to find a Palico. This is the Buddy Smithy, and he’s in charge of crafting gear for your Buddies.

Talk to him, and you’ll see a full list of armor and weapons you can craft for your Palico and Palamute. In order to craft Buddy armor and weapons, you need monster scrap, which can be obtained from slaying or capturing monsters.

Whenever you hunt a monster, there’s a chance that you’ll get scrap. For instance, hunting a Great Izuchi will give you Great Izuchi scrap, and so on and so forth. With enough scrap and zenny, you can then craft new gear for your buddies.

They’re fairly cheap to make, and they come with different elemental affinities and resistances as well, so always make sure that you’re outfitting your Buddies with new gear whenever you can. This will make your hunts go a lot smoother, especially if you’re playing solo.
